Summary:
|
From the onset, the Learning Space Modernization project has always been a targeted effort to improve existing learning spaces. The original budgets were built on improvements to the physical space and explicitly excluded technology equipment. In the early stages, DART was able to absorb new equipment purchases as only a couple of spaces were done at a time. As the program scales up and more spaces are done each summer, that method is not sustainable. We have also learned from the early projects that the purchase of new technology is integral to truly transforming the environment to an agile, interactive space. Future modernization requests will request funding for technology, but in the interim the modernization projects on the bond referendum do not include money for technology. This appropriation is to fund technology equipment for the newly modernized spaces at Albemarle High School, Western Albemarle High School, Jouett Middle School, Walton Middle School, and Baker Butler Elementary School. Equipment includes mobile interactive multi-touch panels which can convert into table form, short-throw projectors, and monitors for digital display. This funding is only for 2017 summer work. After the scope of next summer’s modernization work becomes more defined and technology needs identified, a second and final funding request will be made in the spring.
