Summary: The mission of the Community Public Charter School is to provide an alternative and innovative learning environment, using the arts, to help children in grades six through eight learn in ways that match their learning styles; developing the whole child intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially. Seeking to serve students who have not succeeded in school, the program will close their achievement gap by offering a balance of literacy tutorials and an arts-infused curriculum.

The Community Public Charter School is responsible for the following major programs and/or services: 6th - 8th Grade Instructional Program, Literacy and Arts Infused Education, Choice Theory School Development; and Mastery Learning.

The Community Public Charter School received state funds from Virginia Department of Education in the amount of $12,500 for FY17/18 to be used to pay Modern Improvisational Music Association (MIMA) to provide a ten week song writing and music production workshop and performance, training in Choice Theory, Triple C Camp, 3D printer, art supplies, tutoring sessions before and after school. We also received donations in the amount of $65,074.21 from anonymous donors to be used for salaries, benefits and educational materials. There is also a local fund balance from FY16/17 in the amount of $6,351.35 which may be used for FY17/18. These funds will be received and disbursed as attached.
Funding: As presented.
Recommendation: Request the Board of Supervisors to appropriate the Community Public Charter School funds in the amount of $83,925.56 and to amend the appropriations ordinance accordingly.
