Summary:

Albemarle County Public Schools is beginning the design process for a new elementary school within the division’s Southern Feeder Pattern. The assumed building size is 72,500 square feet, with an anticipated capacity of 500 students.
In accordance with School Board Policy FEA - Facility Design, the School Board appointed the following Southern Elementary School Architectural/Engineering Selection Committee on 4/27/2023:
• Debbie Collins, Deputy Superintendent
• Michele Castner, Director of Elementary Education
• Rosalyn Schmitt, Chief Operating Officer
• Rosaura Gonzalez-Muniz, Assistant Principal, Mountain View Elementary
• Ayanna Mitchell, Director of Equity Education
• Lisa Molinaro, Lead Coach for Early Education
• Gerald Harris, Senior Project Manager
• Lindsay Snoddy, Director of Building Services
Seven firms responded to the RFP. The selection committee reviewed the proposals and selected four firms to interview (Enclosure 1). The committee interviewed the firms on June 6th. In accordance with Policy FEA, the School Board approved staff to move forward with negotiations with the top-ranked firm, VMDO Architects, P.C. The Notice of Intent to Award for Design Services: New Southern Feeder Pattern Elementary School to VMDO Architects, P.C. was posted on July 18, 2023. |

|
The funds for A/E Professional Services for the project have been approved in the FY23/24 Capital Improvements Program. Fee negotiations were conducted by staff for the A/E services in accordance with the Virginia Public Procurement Act and the Albemarle County Procurement Policies and Procedures. |
