Summary:
|
The Student Senate is a student-led leadership initiative established to amplify student voice, especially from historically marginalized groups, across Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS). It unites existing student voice efforts into a cohesive body that advises on school policy, promotes equity, and develops leadership. Through monthly affinity group meetings, leadership summits, and engagement with division leadership, students influence decisions that shape their educational experience.
The Senate directly supports the ACPS vision of “authentic, challenging, and relevant learning” and the mission to eliminate the predictive value of race, class, gender, and special capacities in student success. It responds to the Bellwether Report Recommendation #5 and insights from student surveys regarding belonging and engagement.
During this evening’s session, the OCE Team and members of the Student Senate will discuss the impacts of the Student Senate initiatives. The session will include a small group Student Voice Roundtable Discussions and a Student Voice Sharing Session where students reflect on their experiences, growth, and the impact of their work.
