Summary:
|
The Anti-Racism Policy requires staff to collect, review, and provide an annual report to the School Board as outlined in the policy regulations. This second annual report provides a comprehensive update on how the five subcommittees have implemented the policy to date: The Policy Communication Subcommittee shared examples of their two-fold mission of engaging and informing the ACPS community about the policy and fostering opportunities for student engagement. The Leadership and Administration Subcommittee has focused on piloting a departmental equity needs assessment, identifying disparities in course participation, reviewing alternatives, and improving the tracking of suspensions. The Curriculum and Instruction Subcommittee has explored cultural and racial diversity in curriculum and instructional materials to improve student's access to a comprehensive, equitable, rigorous, and standards-based education. The Training Subcommittee has documented staff participation in required cultural awareness, culturally responsive teaching, and anti-racism professional development opportunities. In addition to framing updates to the teacher performance appraisal, Framework for Quality Learning (FQL), and Professional Learning Communities (PLC) for alignment with the anti-racism and equity levers. The Policy Enforcement Subcommittee provides an evaluative review of the overall policy and regulations with specific responsibilities to this report. In addition, to reporting efforts to address disparities across student membership groups, lessons learned, and offering of next steps.
