Summary: Albemarle County Public Schools is beginning the design process for a new elementary school within the division’s Southern Feeder Pattern. The assumed building size is 72,500 square feet, with an anticipated capacity of 500 students.

In accordance with School Board Policy FEA - Facility Design, an Architectural/Engineering (A/E) Selection Committee is to be appointed jointly by the School Board and the Superintendent when the fee for such services will exceed $100,000. As such, staff recommends the following as members of the Southern Elementary School Architectural/Engineering Selection Committee:

• Michele Castner, Director of Elementary Education
• Rosalyn Schmitt, Chief Operating Officer
• Rosaura Gonzalez-Muniz, Assistant Principal, Mountain View Elementary
• Ayanna Mitchell, Director of Equity Education
• Lisa Molinaro, Lead Coach for Early Education
• Gerald Harris, Senior Project Manager
• Lindsay Snoddy, Director of Building Services
Funding: Funding for the design of the Southern Elementary School is in the FY24 Capital Improvement Program budget.
Recommendation: It is the recommendation that the A/E Selection Committee be approved to meet and select an architect for the Southern Elementary School Project.
